Thanksgiving

This year, due to Josh's work schedule we had Thanksgiving at our house. My parents came down in the morning to help get things ready. Unfortunately, due to the fact that Josh was sleeping all day I couldn't have any small children (besides my own) here until he woke up. I had a lot of fun getting things ready with my mom. We put the turkey in around noon seeing as though it said it would take anwhere from 3 3/4 to 4 and 1/2 hours to cook. We then went about getting the rest of the food ready with the exception of things that needed the oven. Well Josh woke up at about 3 and then next two and a half hours after that seem to be somewhat of a blur to me. We checked the turkey when the timer rang and it was not done. As it turns out the turkey didn't actually get done until about 5:15 or so. Now, keep in mind that Josh had to leave for work at 6:15 and that makes for a very crazy house full of people. Everyone showed up around 5 and I still had not cooked the rolls or the yams (yuck). Luckily my wonderful friend and neighbor was also hosting Thanksgiving Dinner for her family at her house and they had finished earlier. I called her up and we took the rolls there. They were so kind to let us borrow a meat thermometer and the second my dad stuck that thing in the bird the little timer popped out. Great timing.

Anyway, so it's about 5:15 and I have an hour to get the rest of dinner prepared, get the turkey carved and get his lunch packed and him out the door. Somehow we managed.

Everyone stayed for a while and slowly people started filing out the door. My house was a disaster. Thankfully my parents stayed behind to help me clean up (including washing every dish by HAND! That's my dad for ya!). When Josh came home the next morning he said you would never have known by looking at our house that we had hosted Thanksgiving dinner this year.

We are so grateful to live close enough to our family and be able to share these holidays with them, even when Josh works.
